Accreditation Certificate

Scope of Accreditation

The Center for Mineral Technology – CETEM, one of the research institutes under the Brazilian Ministry of Science, Technology, Innovations and Communications, holds the A2LA accreditation as a producer of ores and minerals certified reference materials, in accordance with ISO 17034:2016 - General requirements for the competence of reference material producers. This accreditation demonstrates CETEM´s technical competence for this scope and the operation of a quality management system.

The Certified Reference Material Program (PMRC) was established to coordinate all management and technical aspects of the production of certified reference materials at CETEM. It has a fully equipped laboratory for handling large amounts of material, preventing from contamination among samples as well as from outside sources, and a qualified technical team that is committed to ensuring the quality of the reference materials produced.

Currently, the majority of CETEM´s certified reference materials are bauxite ores originating from various regions in Brazil. There is a continuing effort for the development of other natural matrix reference materials, driven by the needs of analytical laboratories associated with mining, metallurgy and the environment. CETEM also provides custom-made CRMs from client-supplied materials in order to meet a specific or special application need.

CRM Sample

CETEM´s certified reference materials are materials sufficiently homogeneous and stable with respect to one or more specified properties, which have been characterized by a network of competent laboratories using a variety of methods of demonstrable accuracy. They are supplied with a Certificate of Analysis that provides the certified property values, associated uncertainties and a statement of metrological traceability along with a Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS).

CETEM CRMs are intended for use in calibration of a measurement system, assessment of a measurement procedure, quality control and value assignment to materials with similar matrices in the mineral, metallurgical, and environmental analytical laboratories. Bauxite

Bauxite CRM

The CRMs are bauxite samples originating from various regions in Brazil. The raw material was oven-dried, ground, pulverized to pass a 0.150 mm screen and then homogenized. A CRM unit consists of at least 90 g of powdered ore packaged in a glass bottle.

Copper Sulfide Ore and Concentrate

Copper Sulfide Ore and Concentrate

The CBPA-1 and CBPA-2 are, respectively, copper sulfide ore and copper sulfide flotation concentrate samples originating from Sossego region, located in Pará State, Brazil. The raw material was air dried, crushed and pulverized to pass a 0.075 mm screen and then homogenized. A CRM unit consists of at least 135 g of powdered material, packaged under nitrogen atmosphere in a glass bottle and vacuum sealed in a laminated aluminum foil cromopel pouch.

Mining Wastes

Resíduos de Mineração

The RMMG-1 and RMMG-2 are, respectively, a jarosite waste and a tertiary mud samples, residues generated by a hydrometallurgical zinc production process. The raw material was oven-dried and pulverized to pass a 0,075 mm screen and then homogenized. A mining waste CRM unit consists of eight vacuum sealed PET+aluminum+PE lined sachets, containing around 10 g of material each.

They can be produced jointly between CETEM and clients, considering the material's matrix, grade and amount, different types of packaging and other relevant characteristics in order to meet a specific application need.
